Warning About Antichrists

Scripture: 1 John 2: 18-21

Dear children, the last hour is here. You have heard that the Antichrist is coming, and already many such antichrists have appeared. From this we know that the last hour has come. 19 These people left our churches, but they never really belonged with us; otherwise they would have stayed with us. When they left, it proved that they did not belong with us.

20 But you are not like that, for the Holy One has given you his Spirit,[e] and all of you know the truth. 21 So I am writing to you not because you don’t know the truth but because you know the difference between truth and lies.

Scripture Commentary:

John is talking about the last days: the time between Christ’s first and second coming. The first-century readers of first John lived in the last days and so do we. The antichrists of John’s day are also here today. They are the false teachers who pretend to be Christians and lure weak members away from Christ.

We do not need to fear these evil people. The Holy Spirit shows us their errors so we won’t be deceived. Remember, these false teachers are not total strangers to the church. They once had been in the church but they did not really belong to it. These people may go to church for social and business contacts or because it’s a long standing habit. But they have never stopped to ask themselves why they do it.

What is your main reason for being a Christian?

Unless it is a Christ-centered reason, you may not really belong.

Become personally acquainted with Jesus Christ. Ask Him to come into your life. Be truthful with Him.

He loved you before you knew Him. He has always loved you.
