Scripture: Matthew 14: 25-28
25 About three o’clock in the morning[b] Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out, “It’s a ghost!” 27 But Jesus spoke to them at once. “Don’t be afraid,” he said. “Take courage. I am here![c]” 28 Then Peter called to him, “Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”
Scripture Commentary:
Peter is the disciple who always had something to say, challenging Jesus at all times in his ministry. It is through Peter that God shows us ourselves as we go through life questioning our faith. God has given us the plan for salvation yet we go about life as if we don’t understand it.
The people in Jesus’s time came to him for physical healing, not the spiritual healing that he offered. The physical is only temporary but the spiritual is for eternity.
When Peter asked Jesus to call to him to walk on water, his focus was on Jesus. When he took his focus off Jesus, he got into trouble. Likewise, when you take your focus off Jesus and put your priorities on worldly things, you get into trouble.
The number of your days from birth to death are written down. Don’t worry about your physical being. Instead work on your spiritual self that is the Holy Spirit God placed within you. When you understand and accept Jesus Christ, then and only then can you truly appreciate the message of God’s ministry.
