Do You Have Faith In God?

Scripture: Hebrews 11: 1, 6

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Scripture Commentary:

Webster’s Dictionary defines faith as unquestioning belief, complete trust, confidence or reliance, fidelity, loyalty; allegiance, credibility or truth. There are people in our lives who we trust because we know them. We can talk to and listen to them when we seek them out.

Do you have faith in God who you can’t see in the flesh?

God’s spirit is with all of us. He knows everything about us. Do you have the confidence to go to God and believe He hears you and will guide you in the direction you should go? Is your trust strong enough to believe He can do anything?

Believing God exists is only the beginning of faith.

Even the devil believes. God wants a personal, dynamic relationship with you. Do you believe? If not, ask God to help your unbelief. He will show you the way.

You’re Always Better Off With God

Scripture: Hosea 2: 7, 23

She will chase after her lovers but not catch them; she will look for them but not find them. Then she will say, ‘I will go back to my husband as at first, for then I was better off than now.’ 23 I will plant her for myself in the land; I will show my love to the one I called ‘Not my loved one.[i]’ I will say to those called ‘Not my people,[j]’ ‘You are my people’; and they will say, ‘You are my God.’”

Scripture Commentary:

I invite you to read Hosea 2 in its entirety so you can see how the Israelites thought they were better off thanking false gods (specifically Baal), who they believed controlled the weather and thus was making their crops grow. They believed that their homes, clothes – everything – was from the god Baal.

Today we can fall into that same belief when we think we are the one who is doing it all. But despite the Israelites actions, God did not forsake them. Nor will He forsake us.

He will continue to love and protect us. This does not mean there are no obstacles in our lives. There will be pitfalls to turn us from the path of destruction that we are on.

Gomer returned to Hosea, her husband, where she knew she would be protected. Returning to God out of desperation is better than rebelling against Him. God does not reject us when we are at our worst. He loves us.

The Lord Is On Your Side

Scripture: Psalm 124: 2-3, 6-7

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us:Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us … Blessed be the Lord, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.

Scripture Commentary:

Where would you be if the Lord was not on your side? When you think back, you will see how the Lord has brought you into this place and time. Remember a time when you felt trapped by overwhelming problems and saw no way out. Even at that time, God brought you through. It wasn’t because you asked but because He loves you.

Everyone has gone through life trying to deal with problems on their own, not calling on God. But when we reflect, we know it wasn’t us but God who got us through.

There will always be problems but with God there is no problem too big or small.

You can always turn to Jesus Christ for He said knock and the door shall be opened, and ask and it shall be given.

Psalm 124 compares our problems to a bird trapped in the fowler’s claws. But the God who created the birds and you can loosen what may be holding you back.

Call on God and see.
