What is Your Duty?

Scripture: Ecclesiastes 12: 13-14

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.  For God will bring every deed into judgment, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil.

Scripture Commentary:

Solomon covers two ailments in Ecclesiastes chapter 12:

  1. People who lack purpose and direction in life
  2. People who think life is unfair

First, what is your purpose or duty in life?  Is it to suit yourself or to serve God?  Second, why would you think life is unfair?

Have you been fair or unfair to God?

Think about what God has done and what He is doing in your life.  If you are reading this, then God has given you another day.  What have you given God?

If you have not accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, and have asked for forgiveness, then how can God give you direction in your life?  We must go to God for purpose and meaning in life.  In doing so, we will acknowledge the evil, foolishness and injustice in life and build a stronger relationship with Jesus.

This relationship comes when we pray and study God’s Word.  Life is meaningless and futile without God.  All of us will stand before Him and be judged.  We cannot use life’s inconsistencies as an excuse for failing to live as His child.
