We All Have Sinned.

Part Two of the Sermon, What Will God See From Heaven Today?

Scripture: Romans 3: 23

23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

All have sinned and fallen short.

I do not care how well I do in life or what I achieve in life. 

No one can boast of their goodness when they know they have sinned. And only because of God’s grace and mercy are we here today.  Because of God’s love, he sent his son to die for our sins.  God did this out of love so he expects us to obey his guidelines.  He wants us to love him with all our hearts. 

God did this perfectly.  Because we fall short, we must turn to Jesus.

Scripture: Romans 10: 9-10

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Scripture: Psalm 14: 1-2

The fool[a] says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. 2 The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

In this psalm, David applies to his enemies.  These people have become corrupt.  There is no good in any of them because they don’t believe in God, but only in themselves.

There was then, as is now, a clear distinction between those who worship God and those who refuse to worship God, the Father.

So here is the question again. Who do you worship?

What Would God See From Heaven Today?

Sermon Part One: Are our works corrupt and abominable or good?

Scripture: Psalm 14: 1-2

1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.2 The Lord looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.

The question is asked, if God looked at us today, what would he see? 

We are his children. He, God, is our Father.  He knows that we, his children, are not perfect.  Will he see us doing corrupt and abominable works or will he see us doing good?

Would he see disobedience, hatefulness, and vindictiveness or would he see kind, loving, praying people who not only love God but also love one another?

If you say and believe in your heart that there is no God, then you are saying, “I am an atheist.”  The truth is not in you.  You are a child of Satan because you ignore the truth.  This person either ignores the evidence that God exists or they are just wicked and refuse to live by God’s truth.

We become this person when we live our life our way.  We live in the flesh and by the world’s way, turning away from the way of Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

This non-believer is someone who is aggressively perverse in their actions.  To speak in direct defiance of God is utterly foolish.  When your last day on this earth comes, you will stand before God or you will stand before Satan?  And the question asked of you will be, “What have you done in my name?”

How will you answer this question and who will you be answering to?

No one is perfect.  All of us stand guilty of sin and need God’s forgiveness.

God Lifts Us From the Pit of Despair

Scripture: Psalm 40: 1-2

I waited patiently for the Lord. He turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the pit of destruction, out of the sticky mud. He stood me on a rock and made my feet steady.

Scripture Commentary: Sin is a bottomless pit. Only Jesus can draw you out.

At times you have been in places where you were either lost, trapped, or it seemed like you were in a bottomless pit. It seemed like the more you tried to get out, the deeper it became.

The thought to call God didn’t occur in the beginning. Or maybe you did call on Him, and as far as you were concerned, He wasn’t fast enough. Waiting for God to help us is not easy in this fast paced lifestyle we live in.

King David received four benefits from God:

  1. God lifted him out of despair
  2. God set his feet on solid rock, and
  3. gave him a firm place to stand
  4. A new song of praise was put in David’s mouth

There are times when we need trials and tribulations to see how God works in our lives.

Don’t think that going to church, taking communion, and paying tithes is all you have to do. Are you really serving God? Do you spread His Gospel and live as close to a Christ-like lifestyle as you can?

The prophet Samuel told Saul, “To obey is better than making sacrifices,” as they did in David’s time. What God is saying is not to push Him out of your life. Tell the world about God’s blessings.

God, A Very Present Help During Trouble

Scripture: Psalm 46: 1-3

God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling.  Selah

Scripture Commentary: Make a point to present yourself to God in 2021.

We have just ended the year 2020 and now we are starting the present year, 2021. Some of us have lost loved ones, friends or people we knew. We shed tears, but what kind of tears? Did we cry for joy because we know the person had accepted Christ as their Lord and Savior?

This planet we call home is just a stopping station.

It’s a place to prepare for our eternal home in either heaven or hell. Each day we are given a choice to accept or reject God.

For those who accept Christ, the psalmist says that even if the world ends, we need not fear in the face of utter destruction. The writer expressed a quiet confidence in God’s ability to save him.

God is our refuge at all times and in all things.

Do not be consumed by fear or by what we are going through today with Covid-19. God is our refuge even in the face of total destruction. God is not merely a temporary retreat. He is our eternal refuge and can provide strength in any circumstance now and in the future.

God Hasn’t Given You A Spirit of Fear

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1: 7, 14

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.(7) That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.(14)

Scripture Commentary:

What in your life keeps you up at night and plagues you during the day? Is it the fear of losing your job, spouse, or health? These are some of the things that may be ricocheting through your mind that refuse to be quieted.

In Psalm 139: 23, David asked God to search his heart for there was something David needed to face. After asking God to search his heart, David prayed, “know my anxious thoughts.” He wanted to share his worst with God.

Why do we fear going to God and exposing ourselves with questions and fears that He already knows about?

There is nothing too big for God. There’s nothing He does not already know. Pray to God. He will reveal what holds you hostage and show you how to deal with it.

What we fear the most often reveals where we trust God the least. Our fears matter because ultimately, our fears show how we’re relying on our own self and not God.

You can’t be driven by fear and please, serve and honor God. You must ask God for help.

Scripture: Psalm 121: 1-7

Scripture Commentary: I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help?  My help comes from the Lord.

When you opened your eyes this morning did you thank God for waking you up? When you are asleep, you lose all control of your body function. God, through His Holy Spirit, has taken over.

The psalm expresses assurance and hope in God’s protection day and night.

God, our Father and Creator, loves and protects us when we are most vulnerable, when we cannot protect ourselves. Never trust a lesser power than God Himself! There is nothing that can distract God, who is all powerful, and watches over us 24/7.

We are safe in God’s hands.

From the time we came into the world, God has been our protector. In God’s presence we have peace and protection. This world cannot provide; only God can.

So tonight thank God for this day that He has given you because you won’t see it again. And pray that He watches over you during the night.

A person’s steps are directed by the Lord. How then can anyone understand their own way?

Psalm 37: 23-24

The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him; though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

2 Corinthians 4: 17-18

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Scripture Commentary: We won’t understand everything.

Proverbs 20: 24 tells us not to worry if we do not understand everything as it happens in our lives. It’s easy to be lost and confused when we deal with worldly events. We make plans and maybe they go the way we planned, and maybe not. God’s time table is His, not ours.

Psalm 37: 23 says the person in whom God delights is one who follows God, and puts their trust in Him. If you let Him, God will direct your steps and will not lead you down the wrong path.

The problems that we will have should not diminish our faith.

God is not giving us a bed of roses type of life. If God did, then we will think we don’t need Him. When we see how God pulls us through the mess we create, we realize that only His love, grace and mercy got us through.

Revelation 9: 20-21

And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood; which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk; Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their thefts.

No one suddenly falls into immorality; it happens a little bit at a time.

These people were so hardhearted that even plagues did not drive them to God. People don’t usually fall into immortality and evil suddenly. They slip into it a little at a time, and when they realize what has happened, they are irrevocably mired in their wicked ways.

People who allow sin to take root in their life will find themselves in a predicament. Temptation entertained today becomes sin tomorrow. From there, it turns into a habit, leading to death and separation from God forever. To think you could never become this evil is the first step toward a hard heart. Go to God and confess your sin. Ask for His forgiveness.

Psalm 23:6

Surely Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

When you hear your name called and you take your last breath, what will be your final destination? Will you be the rich man in hell or will you take the same path as Lazarus, the beggar, and be in God’s House? You have a choice and a chance.

2 Corinthians 5:1

For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house mot made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

The doors of the church are never closed.

Jude 1:24-25

24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, 25 To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

Psalm 51: 10-12

Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.  Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.

Turn to God. Renounce a life of sin and rebellion. Let God create a clean heart within you. He will give you direction, love and the power to change.

It is not God who must live up to our ideas of fairness. Instead, we must live up to His. Don’t spend time looking for loopholes in God’s law because there are none. God is perfect, we are not.

God will judge us for what we are, for our own sin, not someone else’s. Each of us is accountable for our own actions.

Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Is the Punishment Fair?

Part One: That Isn’t Fair! In Reality, God Is Fair.

Ezekiel 18: 19-20

“Yet do you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the punishment for the father’s sin?’ When the son has practiced justice and righteousness and has kept all My statutes and has done them, he shall certainly live. 20 The person who sins [is the one that] will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the sin of the father, nor will the father bear the punishment for the sin of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be on himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on himself.

We will say “This isn’t fair, why am I being punished?” Some people feel that are bearing someone else’s punishment. This can be true when we follow their ways.

If we are living in sin because we were raised in it, we don’t have to continue when we learn that it’s wrong. Once we put The Bible in our hands and read the Word or listen to a preacher of God’s Word, we begin to know the truth.

Now the people of Judah believed they were being punished for the sins of their ancestors, not their own sin. Now if you do, think, or are living wrong, and you know that you are, who can you blame? No one but yourself!

If you think that someone in your family has been living in sin and you are bearing the punishment for it, you are wrong. God judges each and every person individually!

Psalm 7: 8

The Lord judges the peoples; Judge me, O Lord, and grant me justice according to my righteousness and according to the integrity within me.

God searches our minds and hearts. Nothing is hidden from God. This can be either terrifying or comforting. It can be terrifying because you can’t hide or lie to God when you stand before Him. Likewise, it can be comforting if you know that His grace and mercy is freely given.
